He described a heated 2017 meeting where Musk's mood shifted abruptly after Brockman rejected a proposal for Musk to gain more control, with Brockman stating, "I actually thought he was going to hit me," and Musk vowing to withhold funding. Brockman revealed Musk had tried "buttering up" him and co-founder Ilya Sutskever, presenting August 2017 texts where Sutskever asked, "Will a model 3 make you be willing to accept massively unfavourable terms?" to show Musk's awareness of plans to shift from a 2015 non-profit to a for-profit entity to raise billions, especially after ChatGPT's success. The bitter feud persists since Musk's departure and his 2023 launch of competitor xAI. Former board member Shivon Zilis, mother of four of Musk's children, is expected to testify; Brockman trusted her to keep Musk conflicts under control, but she left in March 2023 after informing him her twins were via IVF and platonic with Musk.
