ICA officers use electric saw on bus at Woodlands Checkpoint, find duty-unpaid cigarettes, arrest M’sian man, 40 25.06.2026

On June 15, 2026, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at Woodlands Checkpoint intercepted a Malaysia-registered bus attempting to smuggle duty-unpaid cigarettes into Singapore. The vehicle was profiled and directed for enhanced checks, prompting officers to use an electric circular saw to cut open the chassis. The contraband was concealed in a modified engine compartment, yielding more than 880 cartons and 110 packets of cigarettes. The 40-year-old Malaysian driver was arrested at the scene. ICA announced the seizure in a Facebook post on June 25, stating that both the suspect and the seized items were referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation. The case underscores the ongoing efforts by Singapore authorities to combat smuggling activities through the use of advanced inspection techniques and thorough vehicle profiling. The Woodlands Checkpoint is a key border crossing for vehicles entering Singapore from Malaysia, making it a frequent target for smuggling attempts.
