« L’arche des amoureux » : un monument naturel emblématique des Pouilles s’effondre le jour de la Saint-Valentinà 11h00 17.02.2026

The iconic "L'arche des amoureux," a natural rock arch forming part of the "faraglioni" of Sant'Andrea near Lecce in Puglia, Italy, dramatically collapsed on Saturday, February 14th, coinciding with Valentine's Day. This beloved landmark, a popular spot for marriage proposals and tourist photographs, succumbed to severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, wind, and strong waves that had affected the Adriatic coast for several days. The destruction of the arch, a significant blow to the region's image and tourism, has been met with dismay by local officials, including the mayor of Melendugno, Maurizio Cisternino, who described the event as a "very hard blow." The storms also caused erosion along the Ionian coast, damaging seaside structures and ports, prompting regional officials to assess the area for urgent coastal interventions.
