A 60-year-old man from Northern France has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Douai criminal court for the repeated sexual abuse of his Jack Russell terrier, named Sultane, over a six-year period. The abuse came to light in 2023 when the man's 20-year-old son, who had also been a victim of his father's sexual abuse, filmed the assaults on the dog and reported them. The court recognized the dog as a victim, awarding €2,000 for animal prejudice and another €2,000 for moral prejudice to the League for the Protection of Animals (LPA), represented by lawyer Graziella Dode. The convicted man has also been ordered to undergo judicial follow-up with specific obligations. Sultane has since been adopted and is living peacefully.
