In Béziers, early Sunday morning, February 22nd, a 46-year-old man, reportedly in psychological distress following his father's recent death, attacked a national police officer with a saber. The incident occurred after police and firefighters responded to a welfare check at his home on Rue Jean-Rostand around 2 a.m. After initially appearing unresponsive, the man armed himself and charged at the officer. The officer deployed a taser, incapacitating the man, who then attempted to grab a combat knife before being subdued by a second taser shot. A pellet gun was also found in the residence. The man was taken into custody and then to the hospital for psychological evaluation.
