IMF warns of looming inflation crisis on back of US-Israel war on Iran 09.04.2026

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has issued a stark warning of an impending global inflation crisis, driven by the escalating US-Israel war on Iran, which began on February 28. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva announced on Thursday that the fund will significantly downgrade its global economic growth forecast for next week, a reversal from its earlier optimistic outlook. The conflict has already caused a surge in oil and natural gas prices, damaged energy infrastructure, disrupted fertilizer shipments crucial for agriculture, and eroded business and consumer confidence. Georgieva urged member countries to strengthen their economies as defense spending strains the global outlook, while also expressing optimism about securing US Congressional approval for a 50 percent increase in IMF lending resources.
