In southern Lebanon, civilians are trapped after Israel destroys bridges 24.03.2026

On Sunday, March 22, Israeli airstrikes destroyed the Qasmiyeh bridge on the main highway connecting the Tyre region to the rest of Lebanon, approximately eighty kilometers south of Beirut. This destruction, which occurred again on Monday afternoon, has created a chasm of several dozen meters, severely hindering movement for civilians. The bridge was a crucial artery for both Lebanese fleeing Israeli bombardment northward and for the delivery of supplies to southern towns and villages. With this primary route now impassable, only the old coastal road remains as an access point to Tyre, a city that, despite evacuation orders, still houses an estimated 20,000 residents, including 15,000 displaced individuals. Since March 2, over one million people have been displaced across 15% of Lebanese territory due to renewed hostilities.
