Independent committee to study new higher education law to replace AUKU, says Zambry 20.08.2026

The Malaysian government is moving forward with replacing the 50-year-old Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU) with a new One Higher Education Act. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir announced on Thursday that an independent committee will be established as the first step in drafting the new legislation. The second step will involve engaging all stakeholders in the higher education sector, while a separate group will be formed to develop the new Bill.
