India asks e-commerce apps to stop '10-minute' delivery service 14.01.2026

The Indian government has urged quick-commerce platforms, including Zomato, Blinkit, and Zepto, to discontinue their "10-minute delivery" services due to significant concerns over worker safety and dangerous working conditions. This directive follows discussions between the federal labour ministry and company officials, prompted by a recent nationwide strike by delivery riders demanding fair wages and safer environments. While popular with consumers, the rapid delivery model has been criticized for pressuring gig workers, leading to unsafe practices. Some companies, like Blinkit, have begun removing explicit 10-minute promises from their marketing, though actual delivery times in apps may still be under this threshold in some locations. The expansion of India's gig economy, projected to grow substantially by 2030, highlights the increasing reliance on these workers who often lack social security and face algorithmic pressure.
