India leading the pack in AI adoption: Microsoft’s Puneet Chandok 03.06.2026

India is emerging as a global leader in AI adoption, particularly with Microsoft's Copilot, experiencing a substantial 250% year-on-year growth in deployment. Major Indian IT firms, including Infosys, TCS, and Wipro, are significantly expanding their Copilot licenses, collectively reaching over 100,000 employees each and signaling a move towards AI as an operational framework. Puneet Chandok, president of Microsoft India and South Asia, highlighted that this rapid enterprise rollout is one of the fastest globally for Microsoft, indicating a shift from tool-level integration to AI-powered execution of transactional tasks. The banking and manufacturing sectors are also heavily deploying AI agents, with a broader industry-wide reinvention driven by the potential for enhanced productivity and durable enterprise value, supported by Microsoft's substantial $17.5 billion investment in Indian data centers over four years.
