India resumes travel visas for Bangladesh as Trivedi takes charge in Dhaka 25.06.2026

Dinesh Trivedi, a 76-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party leader, took charge as India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh on Thursday, becoming the first politician to hold the diplomatic post. He presented his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin and received a guard of honour at Bangabhaban palace. Shortly after, Trivedi visited the Indian Visa Centre in Dhaka and announced the resumption of general travel visas for Bangladeshi nationals, which had been suspended for nearly two years. The suspension had been imposed amid heightened security concerns and worsening bilateral relations under the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government that followed the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024.
