India reviewing Bangladesh’s request to extradite Hasina: MEA 17.04.2026

India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Friday that it is reviewing Bangladesh's formal extradition request for deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India following the July 2024 uprising. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the request is being examined through established judicial and internal legal processes, and India remains committed to engaging constructively with all stakeholders. This development follows a recent visit by Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman to New Delhi, where he reiterated the extradition request and discussed strengthening bilateral ties with Indian ministers, including S. Jaishankar. The MEA indicated a desire to further deepen the partnership and explore proposals for cooperation.
