Indian charged in US car crash that killed his pregnant partner, fears deportation 04.06.2026

An Indian national, 33-year-old Tarsem Singh, faces charges in Ohio following a fatal car crash on February 16 that killed his pregnant 17-year-old partner, Ashlee Holmes, and their unborn child. The incident occurred after a police pursuit where the SUV reportedly exceeded 120 mph, lost control, and collided with another vehicle before overturning. Singh, who allegedly entered the U.S. illegally in 2017, has been indicted by a Darke County grand jury on charges including involuntary manslaughter and aggravated vehicular homicide. He is being held on a $1 million bond, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on him, potentially leading to deportation after the criminal proceedings conclude. A jury trial is scheduled for August 17-21. Holmes' family has expressed a desire for Singh's deportation, with her mother stating that no outcome can compensate for their loss.
