Indiaspora maps 250 years of Indian American influence before US milestone 02.07.2026

Diaspora advocacy group Indiaspora has launched "The Indiaspora 250 at 250: The Indian American Story," a timeline featuring 250 significant moments that chronicle the influence of Indian Americans in the U.S. This project, released ahead of America's 250th Independence Day celebration on July 4, traces the community's journey from the first recorded non-coerced arrival in 1790 to its present-day impact across science, business, public life, food, and arts. The timeline highlights key figures and events, including the first Indian woman to earn a U.S. medical degree in 1886, the first Asian American and Sikh elected to Congress in 1956, and the increasing presence of Indian-origin CEOs leading Fortune 500 companies, with the community now estimated to be between three and five million people.
