Indonesia arrests officials in crackdown on corruption 04.06.2026

Indonesia has apprehended Silmy Karim, the deputy minister for immigration affairs, as part of an escalating anti-corruption drive. Karim is accused of irregularities in immigration document administration between 2023 and 2024, when he served as director general for immigration under former President Joko Widodo. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed his arrest on Thursday, with seven other suspects identified in the case. This follows the Attorney General’s Office's arrest of Dadan Hindayana, former head of a program under President Prabowo Subianto, on corruption charges related to alleged misuse of school foundations. The government expressed concern over these recurring events but respects the ongoing legal processes.
