Inflation at 3.1% puts June wage indexation in sight 06.05.2026

Luxembourg's annual inflation rate climbed to 3.1% in April 2026 from 2.4% in March, as reported by Statec, edging the nation toward its next automatic wage indexation. The six-month average index increased to 1,038.35 points, approaching the trigger threshold of 1,038.79 points, which requires 2.5% accumulated inflation since the last indexation; 2.46 percentage points have been amassed so far. This acceleration was largely fueled by energy costs, which comprised 42% of inflation, with heating oil soaring 75.5% year on year and fuel rising 28.8%. Other sectors saw smaller gains, and the index excluding energy dipped to 1.9%. Statec will issue May's inflation data on 29 May, potentially confirming the indexation activation.
