Infrastruktur: Bahn sperrt 130 Rolltreppen an Bahnhöfen wegen Sicherheitstests 21.02.2026

Deutsche Bahn has temporarily shut down approximately 130 escalators at major German train stations, including Berlin Hauptbahnhof, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Cologne/Bonn Airport, due to a defect that caused abrupt stops. This precautionary measure, prompted by two simultaneous escalator failures of the same type at Berlin Hauptbahnhof, is being undertaken for safety testing in collaboration with the manufacturer. The Federal Ministry of Transport expects Deutsche Bahn to resolve the issue swiftly, acknowledging the inconvenience for passengers, particularly those with reduced mobility. Investigations suggest a potential gearbox problem, and efforts are underway to expedite repairs and recommission the escalators, with some already reported to be back in operation.
