Inmitten politischer Krise in Frankreich: Tausende bei Trauermarsch für rechten Aktivisten in Lyon 21.02.2026

Approximately 3200 people participated in a memorial march in Lyon for a nationalist activist who died from severe head injuries sustained a week prior during an attack on the sidelines of a right-wing rally. The march, organized by several far-right and staunchly Catholic groups, prompted a significant police presence of around 500 officers to ensure security amidst warnings of potential clashes. The incident has triggered a political crisis in France, with President Emmanuel Macron urging calm and emphasizing the unacceptability of militias, regardless of their origin, while announcing a cabinet meeting on violent groups with party affiliations. Seven suspects have been arrested, with six in pre-trial detention for alleged murder and grievous bodily harm, and one placed under judicial supervision. Three of the arrested men are reportedly linked to the radical left, including a parliamentary assistant to a La France Insoumise (LFI) deputy and co-founder of the antifascist group "Jeune Garde," which media reports suggest is responsible for the attack. The deceased student was reportedly associated with various far-right organizations.
