Inondations : Comment Rennes a appris à se protéger de l’eau après avoir été noyée l’an dernier 20.02.2026

Rennes has implemented enhanced flood protection measures following a severe inundation last year, demonstrating increased resilience and faster response to rising waters. This year, a 100-meter temporary dam was deployed along the Canal Saint-Martin in just two hours, a swift action authorized by the Minister of the Interior and the Prime Minister, which successfully protected numerous homes from the overflow. While residents like Fabienne, owner of the oldest barge in France, acknowledge the current flooding is less severe than the "monstrous" 2025 event that submerged cars and flooded basements, the municipality, led by Mayor Nathalie Appéré, has learned from past experiences. This includes improved early warning systems, door-to-door notifications, and the utilization of the "Alabri" program for home adaptation, aiming to mitigate the impact of unique and unpredictable flood events.
