Insecurity: South-West Govs Working, Collaborating To Secure Region, Says Aiyedatiwa 03.06.2026

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State affirmed that governors in the South-West are actively collaborating to enhance regional security, citing a recent meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, focused on joint strategies. This initiative includes leveraging the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun, which operates in Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti, and Ogun states, with Lagos having its own security apparatus. Aiyedatiwa emphasized that while security efforts are often not publicly visible, significant work is underway to combat rising crime, including kidnappings and attacks, particularly given Ondo's position as a gateway state. His remarks followed the conviction and sentencing of four individuals for the 2022 St Francis Catholic Church attack in Owo, which he deemed a victory for the rule of law and the victims.
