Intermittent rain expected in some parts of the country - Department of Meteorology | Virakesari.lk 05.07.2026

According to the latest report released by the Department of Meteorology, conditions prevailing in various parts of Sri Lanka will result in rain and strong winds. While there is a possibility of intermittent rain in the Sabaragamuwa Province and the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts, light rain may also occur in the Southern and North Western Provinces, specifically in the Galle and Matara districts. Furthermore, strong winds with speeds of 40 - 50 km/h per hour are expected in the western parts of the Central Highlands, the Northern, North Central, and North Western Provinces, as well as in the Ratnapura, Ampara, and Trincomalee districts. In maritime areas, light rain is possible from Galle to Colombo and Galle. The sea is expected to be rough with winds blowing at 55 - 65 km/h per hour from Kachchativu to Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil. Sea waves are likely to rise to a height of 2.0 - 2.5 meters in the areas from Galle to Pottuvil.
