Under the deal, AzerTelecom will route traffic destined for Armenia, while Telecom Armenia will provide transit for Azerbaijan. A key practical outcome is the possibility of constructing a fibre-optic link connecting mainland Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic via Armenian territory, giving Baku an alternative communications route.
