Intertoys removes toy monkeys containing asbestos-containing sand from shelves 07.07.2026

The toy retailer Intertoys has launched a nationwide recall for stretchy toy monkeys from the brand Orb. This action follows laboratory testing which revealed that the filling sand in the figures contains chrysotile, a form of asbestos. The concentrations found range between 0.1 and 2 percent, exceeding the legal limit of 0.1 percent. Despite previous commitments to halt sales, the products remained on shelves for several weeks, which Intertoys has admitted was an error in execution. The products have previously been recalled in the United States and Slovenia as well. The Asbestos & Fibers Expertise Center advises consumers to double-bag any affected toys and take them to a recycling center, noting that one should avoid dry sweeping up any released sand.
