Filming drones, burning jeeps in Lithuania. Behind Russia’s sabotage network 09.07.2026

An investigation by Vot Tak has uncovered a massive Russian-linked sabotage recruitment network operating via Telegram. Since early 2026, tens of millions of job postings have appeared, promising high pay for illegal activities such as arson, reconnaissance, and filming military movements. These operations target individuals across the European Union, including Lithuania, Poland, and Latvia, as well as Ukraine. Recruiters use intermediary accounts, often registered with phone numbers from India, Iran, or Arab countries, to mask their identities. The network offers specific payouts for various crimes, such as $1,500 for burning a NATO vehicle or $7,000 for attacking a police building. The investigation highlights how digital platforms facilitate cross-border instability, with Ukrainian courts already recording numerous convictions for sabotage and terrorism directly linked to these Telegram-based recruitment efforts.
