Iraqi officials arrest man wanted 14.01.2026

Iraqi officials have arrested Kazem Hamad, a man identified by Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett as their "Number One priority" and a threat to national security, in connection with a series of firebombings in Australia, including an antisemitic attack on the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne in December 2024. Hamad, who was previously convicted of drug trafficking in Australia and deported in 2023, was arrested as part of an independent Iraqi drugs investigation following information provided by Australian Federal Police late last year. This arrest is considered a significant disruption to an alleged criminal enterprise operating in Australia.
