'Irresponsible' works on Msida Creek project blamed for Melita internet outage 20.07.2026

Telecommunications company Melita has reported a significant service outage affecting customers in the south of Malta, with some in central Malta also impacted. The disruption, which began on Monday morning, was caused by a contractor working on the Msida Creek project who damaged a fibre optic cable. Melita stated that the presence and route of the fibre were notified to authorities and the project team ahead of works, but heavy machinery was used "irresponsibly," damaging infrastructure belonging to Melita and other entities. Repair teams were dispatched immediately, and services were expected to be restored gradually by 3pm.
