Medicinar iz Srebrenice, Suljo Čakanović, koji je preživio put smrti 1995. godine, u intervjuu za Radiosarajevo.ba govori o značaju Marša mira i izazovima s kojima se povratnici suočavaju. Kao predsjednik pododbora za organizaciju Marša mira, Čakanović ističe važnost edukacije mladih o historijskoj istini kako bi se spriječilo ponavljanje tragedije. On opisuje teške početke povratka u 2000-im godinama, kada su ljudi ručno čistili ruševine, te zdravstvene probleme koje danas pate, uključujući bolesti štitne žlijezde i psihičke traume. Čakanović kritički govori o nemarnom odnosu vlasti prema preživjelim, navodeći da su obećanja vlada često neispunjena nakon obilježavanja godišnjica genocida. On naglašava da Marš mira mora trajati do Sudnjeg dana kako bi se očuvala sjećanja na 8372 žrtava, među kojima je izgubio i vlastitu rodbinu.
