Israel and Lebanon agree to implement ceasefire, boosting hopes for Iran deal 03.06.2026

Lebanon and Israel have agreed to implement a ceasefire on June 3, a development the Trump administration views as a positive step toward a broader agreement to end the US-Israeli war on Iran. This ceasefire is conditional on Hezbollah ceasing hostilities and withdrawing operatives from the South Litani Sector, with Lebanese Armed Forces taking exclusive control of designated zones. Despite a previous ceasefire agreement in May, hostilities had persisted, following Israel's March invasion in pursuit of Hezbollah. Further direct negotiations are scheduled for the week of June 22 to address outstanding issues and build confidence. Meanwhile, recent attacks on Kuwait and near the Strait of Hormuz, involving Iranian drones and US defensive strikes, have strained a fragile ceasefire, caused oil prices to rise, and highlighted the ongoing challenges in reopening the vital shipping route.
