Israel crosses deeper into Lebanon as Iran-US negotiations continue | World News 10h ago

Israel has intensified its ground offensive in southern Lebanon, with its forces crossing the Litani River and advancing near Nabatieh, a significant Hezbollah stronghold, marking the broadest incursion in a quarter-century. This escalation coincides with heightened attacks by Hezbollah on northern Israel and follows Israel's war on Iran, launched with the US on February 28. The offensive has led to displacement of thousands in southern Lebanon and resulted in casualties on both sides, with over 3,370 killed in Lebanon and more than 20 Israeli soldiers and four civilians dead. Simultaneously, ongoing Iran-US negotiations in the US aim to potentially secure a permanent ceasefire, though Hezbollah remains outside these talks. Israel has also increased operations in Gaza, planning to expand its occupation, as the prolonged multi-front conflict, ignited by Hamas's October 2023 attack, imposes substantial economic costs on Israel.
