Italie : Il grignotait du fromage, le remettait à sa place et s’en allait du supermarché sans payer 24.02.2026

A septuagenarian man in Padua, Italy, was apprehended last Thursday for repeatedly nibbling on and damaging cheese in a supermarket over several months. The man would consume the ends of hard cheeses, including Parmesan and Grana Padano, then return the partially eaten products to the shelves without payment. This serial shoplifting led to significant financial losses for the supermarket, estimated at 10 to 15 euros per damaged piece, accumulating to hundreds of euros in total, as the spoiled cheese had to be discarded. Plainclothes agents, following weeks of surveillance, caught him in the act in the fresh produce section. He was compelled to pay 15 euros for the cheese he was consuming at the time but will not be prosecuted for prior incidents due to a lack of definitive proof.
