It’s not cricket: Pakistan athletes allowed in India for multilateral sport 06.05.2026

India's Ministry of Sport announced on Wednesday that Pakistani athletes and teams will be permitted to participate in multilateral sporting events hosted by India, though bilateral competitions remain prohibited. The ministry indicated a simplification of the visa process for sportspeople and officials, with multi-entry visas available for international sports governing body office bearers. This decision is guided by the practices of international sports bodies, the interests of Indian athletes, and India's growing credibility as a host for international events. India is currently preparing to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and has bid for the 2036 Olympics and 2038 Asian Games. This policy shift follows a period of heightened military tension between the two nations, which has led to a significant freeze in bilateral cricket engagements.
