Jacek slaapt in een tent aan de rand van Rotterdam: ‘Wonen op straat is moeilijker dan in de jungle’ 22.02.2026

Jacek, a former IT professional from Poland, now lives in a tent on the outskirts of Rotterdam after losing his home and job over 15 years ago. He describes his makeshift shelter, a small dome tent with a blue tarp and insulation, as his "temporary home," emphasizing the difficulties of sleeping outdoors, which he likens to surviving in the jungle. Jacek is concerned about safety, having experienced unwanted visitors and even a hedgehog entering his tent, and has drawn a Christian cross in the earth for protection. Despite police checks, he has not been asked to leave, as officers have discretion in such situations. He maintains a website providing information for homeless individuals in multiple languages and dreams of finding work in Rotterdam's port and ultimately achieving happiness, urging authorities to "change the system" as he sees the city's streets deteriorating.
