Japon : Le sort du bébé singe Punch illustre la cruauté des zoos, selon l’association PETA 24.02.2026

The plight of Punch, a baby monkey at Ichikawa Zoo near Tokyo, Japan, has become a social media sensation and a focal point for animal rights discussions. Abandoned by his mother and raised by humans since his July birth, Punch gained fame after images showed him being harassed by other monkeys and clinging to an orangutan plush toy. PETA, the animal rights association, argues that Punch's case exemplifies the cruelty of zoos, which confine animals and deprive them of natural environments, urging his transfer to a more natural setting. Meanwhile, Ikea, which sells the plush toy, reported "unprecedented" sales, leading to stock shortages in Japan and the US. The zoo saw over 5,000 visitors on a recent holiday Monday, with many inquiring about donations.
