Javier Macaya distances himself from Matthei: "Those criticisms do not represent the UDI" 05.07.2026

Javier Macaya, a senator for the Independent Democratic Union (UDI), has drawn a clear line between himself and the recent criticisms leveled by Evelyn Matthei against the Chilean Government. In an interview with BioBioChile, the parliamentarian stated that the former mayor's remarks are strictly personal in nature and do not represent the official stance of the party. Macaya emphasized that the UDI maintains solid and loyal support for the Executive, positioning itself as one of the parties providing the most support to the current administration. Furthermore, the senator urged to move past the controversial constitutional impeachment against former minister Nicolás Grau, suggesting that the political focus should be centered on the approval of the economic mega-reform, boosting the national economy, and the frontal combat against crime for the benefit of the citizenry.
