Judge declares TV Azteca in insolvency proceedings due to payment default 07.07.2026

A federal judge in Mexico City has ruled that the insolvency proceedings (concurso mercantil) for TV Azteca, a company owned by Ricardo Salinas Pliego, are admissible due to failure to meet its financial obligations. The broadcaster has faced economic difficulties since 2018, caused by licensing payments, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and a tax debt with the SAT confirmed by the SCJN. The judge ordered the start of a conciliation stage that will last 185 calendar days following its publication in the DOF, a period during which seizures and payments of previous debts will be suspended, with the exception of salaries and tax obligations. The Federal Institute of Insolvency Specialists (IFECOM) will appoint a conciliator to determine the credits. If the company fails to reorganize its debts during this process, it will proceed to a formal declaration of bankruptcy.
