Judge orders Trump administration to restore Voice of America's operations 17.03.2026

U.S. District Court Judge Royce C. Lamberth has ordered the Trump administration to reinstate the full operations of the Voice of America (VOA), a government-run broadcaster that had been significantly curtailed for approximately one year. The ruling, issued on Tuesday, mandates that the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) present a plan within a week to restore VOA's broadcasting capabilities and bring back hundreds of employees who were placed on administrative leave. Judge Lamberth found the administration's decision to reduce VOA's staff by 1,042 out of 1,147 employees and limit its operations to a "statutory minimum" to be "arbitrary and capricious," failing to consider federal laws regarding VOA's mandated services. This action effectively reverses the impact of an executive order aimed at shutting down the agency, which had severely limited its programming and global reach.
