Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Secret Service Director Sean Curran have stated that a proposed $1 billion in funding, intended for security enhancements related to the White House ballroom project, would also be allocated to "other critical missions." In a letter to congressional leaders obtained by ABC News, the officials emphasized the urgent need for this funding due to an unprecedented rise in threats against public officials, citing recent shootings. While the exact allocation for the ballroom project remains unspecified, the funds are also designated for securing "frequently visited venues" outside the White House, enhancing training and facilities for Secret Service agents, addressing drone and biological threats, and securing high-profile national events. The Senate reconciliation bill explicitly states that none of the funds will support non-security improvements.
