In the Junín region, training has begun for the first canine brigade specialized in the search and rescue of victims during natural disasters. The dogs Minay, Matamoros, Maldonado, and Mochique, all Belgian Malinois, arrived from the Army's Central Veterinary Hospital in Lima to reinforce the 31st Infantry Brigade. These dogs, aged one year and nine months, have successfully completed their first course in basic obedience and obstacle navigation after 20 days of intensive instruction. This initiative is crucial due to the 57-year seismic silence in the area and the threat posed by geological faults such as Huaytapallana. The project, coordinated between the Huancayo Municipal Security (Serenazgo) and the Army, aims to form rescue teams capable of locating people in hard-to-reach areas during earthquakes or floods.
