Karahan and Tattis trial delayed after police witnesses fail to attend court 02.06.2026

The trial of Turkish Cypriot activist Oz Karahan and former Sigma TV journalist Giorgos Tattis was postponed for a second time on Tuesday, November 16, due to the unexplained absence of three key police witnesses at the Nicosia district court. Defence lawyer Efstathios Efstathiou expressed frustration over the repeated delays, highlighting the difficulties these postponements create for the case's progress and noting that a request for a stay of prosecution submitted a year ago remains unanswered. Karahan and Tattis, who pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an October 1 Independence Day protest where they displayed a banner, also voiced their exasperation with the ongoing legal process. The charges include refusing to remove a banner, verbally abusing officers, resisting arrest, and assaulting an officer.
