King and Queen will not live in Buckingham Palace after renovations 25.06.2026

King Charles and Queen Camilla have decided not to move into Buckingham Palace after its decade-long, £369m refurbishment is completed in March 2027, according to the latest royal accounts. Instead, Clarence House, their home since their 2005 marriage, will remain their official London residence. Officials said the choice allows greater public access to the palace, which will continue as the monarchy's administrative headquarters and host state banquets, garden parties, and audiences. The renovation replaced ageing cables, wiring, boilers, and lead pipes—many installed 60 years ago—to prevent fire and water damage. The King and Queen, both in their late 70s, wished to avoid the upheaval of moving, and security concerns would have limited visitor numbers if they were in residence.
