Kissen und Bettdecke waschen: Pflegetipps für Daunendecke und Co. 22.02.2026

Proper care for pillows and duvets is essential for maintaining a clean and comfortable bed, as these items absorb sweat, skin flakes, and dust. While some individuals who sweat minimally and change covers frequently may only need to wash bedding every two to five years, allergy sufferers require more frequent cleaning. Anja Schwalfenberg from the DAAB recommends washing bedding at least every three months at 60 degrees Celsius for allergy sufferers, with shorter intervals possible for severe allergies. For those unable to wash regularly, special encasings can prevent allergens from accumulating. Washing down items requires a large washing machine (at least 6 kg capacity) and a dryer, as air drying can cause down to clump. Down should be washed at 30 degrees Celsius with a gentle detergent, followed by an extra rinse and a gentle spin cycle. Drying involves two cycles at a maximum of 100 degrees Celsius, with cooling and shaking between cycles. Synthetic materials are less demanding, but checking care labels is crucial. Memory foam pillows typically only allow washing of the cover, with the foam core needing gentle spot cleaning and regular airing.
