Kjeld Nuis kritisch over komend NK: 'Wie dat heeft verzonnen, spoort niet' 24.02.2026

Dutch speed skater Kjeld Nuis has strongly criticized the scheduling of the upcoming Dutch National Championships (NK), calling the planner "not entirely sane." Speaking on the TV program Vandaag Inside, Nuis, who recently won Olympic bronze in Milan, highlighted the tight turnaround for athletes returning from the Beijing Olympics. He pointed out that after attending a reception with the King on Tuesday, skaters will have only two days to prepare for the NK, which also serves as a qualification event for the World Championships. Nuis expressed concern that this compressed schedule will lead to fatigue, potentially compromising the performance of skaters at the subsequent World Championships in Thialf from March 5-8. The NK allround and sprint events are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Heerenveen.
