Koalition auf Zielgeraden bei Gesprächen über Heizungsgesetz 22.02.2026

Coalition partners Union and SPD are nearing a compromise on Germany's controversial heating law, with leaders Jens Spahn and Matthias Miersch expressing optimism for a resolution within the coming days. The Building Energy Act (GEG) aims to enhance climate protection in the building sector by gradually phasing out oil and gas heating systems, allowing existing functional units to remain in operation. A core point of contention has been Paragraph 71, which mandates that all newly installed heating systems must operate on 65 percent renewable energy. Spahn emphasized the need to balance affordability and predictability for citizens with climate protection goals, while Miersch acknowledged significant differences between the parties but believes a political compromise is achievable.
