Waternet has lifted the advisory to boil tap water for residents of the Nicolaas Maesstraat in Zuid and the Anton Waldorpstraat in Nieuw-West, following the detection of intestinal bacteria last week. Subsequent water samples confirmed the absence of the E. coli bacteria, which had been found in 49 connections since February 13th. Waternet suspects the contamination may have resulted from sand entering the pipes during construction work. The precautionary boiling measure, which advised boiling water for three minutes for drinking, washing produce, and brushing teeth, remains in effect for the Kastelenstraat in Zuid due to the presence of enterococci bacteria, with an update expected on Monday.
