Kosovo Ombudsman launches investigation into allegations of abuse of Serbs arrested at Gazimestan - Politika - Daily newspaper Danas 07.07.2026

Danas

The Kosovo Ombudsman has launched an ex officio investigation into allegations of abuse of Serbs arrested during the Vidovdan celebration at Gazimestan. The investigation was initiated after citizens and non-governmental organizations filed complaints, claiming that those arrested on June 28 were subjected to physical and psychological violence during transport to the police station. The Ombudsman's office will verify whether the police conduct complied with constitutional, legal, and international human rights protection standards. As part of the procedure, the collection of documentation from the competent authorities and the questioning of those detained is planned. Previously, 36 Serbs were arrested during the events, who were fined 700 euros each for disturbing public order and peace, on the grounds that they were shouting "Kosovo is Serbia!" and raising three fingers.
