Blackout auf Mittelmeer: Luxus-Kreuzfahrtschiff manövrierunfähig – 2000 Passagiere an Bord 20.02.2026

The luxury cruise ship Celebrity Infinity experienced a complete blackout at approximately 2:30 AM on February 20, 2026, leaving 2,000 passengers and crew in darkness and adrift off the Greek coast. A technical failure disabled critical ship systems, including electrical functions, rendering the 25-year-old vessel, which had departed Barcelona on February 3 and was nearing the port of Piraeus, Greece, without power. The ship's crew issued a distress call, and the coast guard safely guided the incapacitated ship to Piraeus. All passengers disembarked unharmed, and the current cruise was canceled. Celebrity Cruises has also canceled the subsequent February 16-27, 2026, Greece itinerary, citing necessary maintenance and prioritizing passenger safety, with compensation offered to affected travelers.
