Britain’s hard right on the march as tens of thousands descend on London 16.05.2026

Tens of thousands gathered in London for the "Unite the Kingdom" march, a demonstration reflecting the growing influence of Britain's hard-right movements. Organized by figures like Tommy Robinson, the marches, though smaller than a September rally, signify a normalization of views previously confined to the fringes, particularly concerning immigration. Demonstrators expressed anger over unauthorized immigrants, benefits claims, and a perceived loss of national greatness, echoing sentiments from the Brexit campaign. While the event did not affiliate with a specific party, many supporters wore colors associated with Reform UK, though some felt the party's rhetoric had been too tempered. The march coincided with political uncertainty for Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government, with the hard-right seeking to capitalize on Labour's struggles. Police implemented a significant operation due to fears of clashes with a pro-Palestinian demonstration, resulting in 11 arrests.
