Approximately twenty Afghan journalists, who fled the Taliban's rise to power on August 15, 2021, are currently awaiting asylum visas in third countries like Iran and Pakistan after their applications for France were denied. The administrative tribunal of Nantes heard their cases on Friday, February 20, with a decision expected within a month. One such journalist, 29-year-old Zahra Ahmadi, who previously worked for Afghan television, managed to reach France in May 2025 after a three-year wait, with assistance from the National Union of Journalists, highlighting the perilous journey and prolonged uncertainty faced by these professionals, particularly women journalists who are no longer permitted to work in Afghanistan.
