Lacson says Senate under attack ‘by its own leadership’ 03.06.2026

Senator Panfilo Lacson has accused Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano of undermining the institution by disrupting its regular sessions and failing to follow proper procedures. Lacson, along with the Senate minority bloc, is calling for Cayetano’s resignation due to the majority bloc’s continued absence from plenary sessions. Lacson claims Cayetano has been issuing verbal directives to suspend sessions without formal written notices, creating a lack of a paper trail for these decisions. He alleges that Cayetano's actions constitute dereliction of duty and has suggested that this could be grounds for a complaint before the Senate ethics committee. Lacson urged majority bloc members to attend the final session day before adjournment to address pending matters.
