Lamola rejects ‘misinformation’ over anti-immigrant violence 08.06.2026

South African International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola has refuted claims made by Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Ablakwa regarding anti-immigrant violence in South Africa, labeling them as misinformation. Ablakwa had alleged five Mozambicans and two Nigerians were killed, but Lamola confirmed only two Mozambican nationals' deaths are under investigation, with no Nigerian nationals being casualties. Lamola also disputed Ablakwa's assertion about the documentation status of repatriated Ghanaians, stating that the majority lacked proper paperwork. Furthermore, Lamola expressed ignorance regarding claims of 15 hospitalized Ghanaians and criticized Ablakwa's use of media over official diplomatic channels, warning against frivolous lawsuits while reiterating South Africa's commitment to regional integration and factual bilateral discussions.
